Rodney Strong has grown Cabernet Sauvignon in the Alexander Valley since 1971 and today farms four different plots in the AVA. Harvesting for the fruit going into this bottling took one month, wrapping up on 12 October. After fermentation the wine was aged for 18 months in barrel, 40% in new French oak. Stephen Brook - Sweet, generous, exuberant nose, black olives and dark chocolate as well as blackcurrant. Rich and succulent, full-bodied, chocolatey, lavish fruit that's very concentrated. Tannins are nicely integrated and overall this shows some elegance, ripeness and weight. Very long. James Doidge - Meaty aromas, a touch balsamic with vanilla oak and ripe blackcurrant. Long finish with slightly grainy tannins, vanilla and coffee on the finish. Roan Sayburn MS - Full-bodied, dry and grippy palate, liquorice and brown spices, very dense and youthful. Drinking window: 2020-2035. Part of Decanter's top panel tasting wines 2020. Score - 95. (Panel, decanter.com, Dec. 9, 2020)
